I could show you a montage of photos of us for our Anniversary but what I think is more meaningful is to show you this photo. This is Michael's belt. It is older than our marriage, it is worn, it has scars, and it doesn't go with everything; but he loves this old thing.
That belt is made of leather which happens to be one of the modern day symbols for the 9th Anniversary. Yesterday, that belt called to me (not just because it was left on the floor); but it truly called to me. It may be tattered and worn but it is beautiful, it has history and it still does its job. It still holds up. Just like us.
In today's society that is focused on instant gratification, getting to say we made it 9 years is huge. It sure hasn't always been pretty but we have endured...just like the belt. We did not give up on the commitment that we made to each other 9 years ago on the beach in Jamaica. More importantly, we have both taken steps to grow as individuals. Our individual growth has made us even better together.
That is why I got my husband a new belt for our Ninth Anniversary. I am excited to continue to weather whatever storms life places in our path if it means we come out the other side stronger. Although we may have more wrinkles today than when we met, those wrinkles signify life…just like the belt.
